The Samsung Galaxy S2 has been the main iPhone 4 contender for the past year however, with Apple releasing the new and improved iPhone 4S 32gb they are still slightly ahead in terms of development and appeal. This is all set to change.

If the rumours are true, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is due for release as soon as next month, February 2012 and will be unveiled in Barcelona.

According to the leak the biggest step forward is that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will offer 3D functionality and may be able to both play 3D video and plug in to 3D TVs to play content. The AMOLED screen should also offer a crisp high defintion 720p resolution and the Galaxy SIII handset could have more internal memory than previous Galaxy S models have had.

The latest 3D phones from LG and HTC have sold well however as they lack the content such as games and videos to fully take advantage of the 3D feature the phones haven’t generated the expected hype and sales figures. Where Samsung is concerned, they have already sold over 10 million units with cheap Galaxy S2 deals and that fanbase will surely look to upgrade to the next model soon. If the leak does turn out to be true, Apple will definitely feel the heat from this new Android based phone and may even look to incorporate 3D technology in the iPhone 5 to rival it.
